<description>Part of me agree with Mr. Caspian Makan, that, in light of its human rights record, Iran as a member of the Human Rights council would be a slap in the face. That said, what about the United States, China, Russia and the other many countries on the HRC that have just as abysmal human rights record as Iran.

I would also like to throw in Shirin Ebadi’s Open Letter to the High Commissioner, Navi Pillay, and members of the Human Rights Council. http://www.humanrights-ir.org/php/view_en.php?objnr=345 She urges the HRC to “use whatever means possible to convince the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to abide by the resolutions adopted by the UN General Assembly, in particular the resolution of December 2009; to allow human rights rapporteurs, especially those who deal with arbitrary arrests, freedom of expression, religion and women&#039;s rights, to enter Iran, and to cooperate with them.” I wonder if it would be better to work with the Iranian government by having it as part of the Human Rights Council.</description>
