Hypocrisy: UN adopts 9 resolutions on Palestinians & Golan, yet silent on Syrian massacre of Palestinians

See list of today’s resolutions below

GENEVA, December 18 – The U.N. General Assembly today adopted nine resolutions on Palestinian rights and the Golan, sharply criticizing Israel yet making no mention of Sunday’s massacre of Palestinians by Syrian warplanes firing missiles into a mosque in a Palestinian refugee camp near Damascus. Nor did the texts mention the tens of thousands of Palestinians who continue to flee the camp.

By the end of this week, the current 2012 UNGA session will have adopted 22 country-specific resolutions on Israel – and only four on the rest of the world combined, one each for Syria, Iran, North Korea and Burma, noted UN Watch.

Today’s resolutions criticized Israel for “the continuing systematic violation of the human rights of the Palestinian people,” and focused on “the extremely difficult socioeconomic conditions being faced by the Palestine refugees in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.”

One resolution condemned Israel for holding on to the Golan Heights, demanding Israel hand the land and its people to Syria.

“It’s astonishing,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch. “At a time when the Syrian regime is massacring its own people, how can the U.N. call for more people to be subject to Assad’s rule? The timing of today’s text is morally galling and logically absurd.”

“What is also outrageous is that these resolutions claim to care about Palestinians, yet the U.N. proves itself completely oblivious to the actual suffering on the ground, happening right now: Palestinians slaughtered, maimed and expelled by Assad’s forces.”

“Today’s farce at the General Assembly underscores a simple fact: the U.N.’s automatic majority has no interest in truly helping Palestinians, nor in protecting anyone’s human rights; the goal of these ritual, one-sided condemnations remains the scapegoating of Israel,” said Neuer.

“The U.N.’s disproportionate assault against the Jewish state undermines the credibility of what is supposed to be an impartial and respected international body, and exposes the sores of politicisation and selectivity that eat away at its founding mission, eroding the U.N. Charter promise of equal treatment to all nations large and small,” Neuer added.

“With more than 40,000 killed in Syria, and millions of Syrian refugees suffering now in the cold of winter, it ought to shock the conscience of mankind that the U.N. will devoting more than 80 percent of this session’s resolutions to Israel, and just one, on Thursday, to Syria.”

Below are the draft texts that were endorsed today by the UN General Assembly. In total, by the end of this week the UNGA will have  adopted 22 resolutions on Israel — and 4 on the rest of the world combined.

  • Why is this a surprise? The theme should simply be that the UN proves again that it is totally anti Israel anti Semitic. Israel is a far better country than the countries that vote against it. It should simply ridicule them, not complain. These articles would be far more interesting if they dealt with the supposed harm these votes are doing to Israel. It is likely they are doing no harm.

  • It is time for the US to stop ALL funding to the UN. We are funding the ultimate in Kafka absurdity and hypocrisy. It is time to turn our backs on this forum of the lowest moral standing in the free world, and no longer pay for the stage where it finds its loudest voice.

  • At the risk of sounding paranoid this is very scary. The world is getting closer and closer to a preWWII stance. Everything is the fault of Israel/Jews.The scariest thing for most of these countries seems to be if Israel builds houses. No one cares about all the inhumane, insane atrocities committed throughout the world. Thank you to Hillel Neuer for all his hard work. It is very appreciated.

  • How could any rational and sane individual possibly become surprised anymore at what happens at such a sorry excuse for an international organization as the UN?

Why would anyone even bother anymore,in the 1930’s there was grafitti in Europe on housewalls:”Jews go back to Palestine where you came from, you don’t belong here in Europe”. And today? Jews, get the hell out of Palestine that you stole from the poor Arabs! Please give me a break, already. The only good news I’ve seen so far lately, is that Richard Falk has been removed from his job.About time too!

  • The United Nation not only unequivocally reaffirmed its ineffectiveness to deal with international problems, but also it has become racist agains the state of Israel.

  • The UN are not only worthless, but actually have a detrimental effect on world peace and I am saddened that so much of Europe cajoles them. I think it is a waste of U.S. tax dollars to protect them and keep them here.

  • Enough already.

    Stop being damned fools.
    Stop being the UN scapegoat.
Stop allowing Israel from being perpetually denigrated.
Stop giving the UN it only raison d’être.

Get out of that immoral anti Semitic organization NOW.

  • Time to create a movement to stop funding the UN. Enough. Let those who have turned the UN into a corrupt and evil-promoting organization fund it. What are the chances the Free Nations will have the guts to do this?

  • This is an irrevocable proof of UN’s anti-Israel policy. This is extremely tragic. This must change immediately.

  • Paula Stovall-Tilley

The U.S. should just remove our membership. It is a joke.

  • Interesting indeed that the U.N. Human Rights activists have never highlighted theplight of the Palestinians suffering a system of apartheid worse than what ever existed in S.Africa.
Which proves your point that they care less about the Palestinian than missing the bus. It is simply a hatred and envy of Israel

  • If all these Islamic nations had ever cared about the Palestinian Arabs they would have accepted them into their societies as full and equal members and there would no longer be refugees in camps. The Jews from Arab lands in Israel are not refugees. They are Israelis. They are indeed our brothers and sisters. What Islam and the Arabs cannot accept is a non Islamic rule over anything where you have Muslims living or where Muslims once ruled. They have never cared about individual rights or individual suffering.

  • As I mentioned previously, how is it possible that the United Nations enjoys its place in New York, especially after 9/11 and other horrible terrorist acts? I live in Israel, and see the many lies passed as truths by terrorist countries. We live next to Syria, and its murder of men, women and children, which has now reach impossible tens of thousands, is being passed up. When, if ever, did anything like that occur in Israel? Never! We fought wars which were foisted upon us, by these ‘innocent’ neighbors.
The Israeli Arabs living here, enjoy full citizenship. Gaza has been helped with millions of dollars, riadhs, euros, etc. and the money is being used for weaponry, not for the good of their population. Much of the funds landed in Switzerland, and in the pockets of their leaders. It’s little wonder that they complain, but they are too afraid to complain to the wrong addresses. The UN has simply overlooked terrorism, because the oil-rich nations might be offended. It is sick. Dare to publish one picture of one of the many suicide attacks, with bloody bodies lying on the ground, and publish it in full glorious color.
As a widow of a former UN representative, I am disgusted that my husband ever worked for this bloody-handed organization. It is good that he never lived to see what he himself predicted would happen.
What a sad, bad, mad origanization the United Nations became!

  • It would be interesting if we could see which nations are voting for & against these absurd resolutions. Time to expose those European nations which are giving lip service to this hatred.
It is also time for the US and other reasonable western nations to stop funding the UN and it agencies. By continuing to fund them we are giving them credibility. Let’s see if Russia, the Muslim nations with all their oil cash and the kneejerk supporters of these hateful resolutions pick up the financial slack. The US would be better served using these funds to reduce our national debt.

  • 199 UN countries- 57 Islamic states- The bias of Russia- The oil Arab states- The growing number of Islamists now in the Western world-

Facts and truth have obviously no place in an organisation with such a bias.

  • The absoluted bias exhibited time and time again by the U.N. against Israel is beyond comprehension. I recommend the name UNITED NATIONS be changed to what is blatantly it’s true objective, the Anti- Israel Nations. Let the countries that support this objective be transparent and let them pay their dues to mantain this guile. The U.N. has not lived up to it’s charter. Countries of character should refuse to support it and work to disband this instrument of dis-unity.

  • This sort of hypocritical action by the UN is exactly what should become a worldwide petition to Ban Ki Moon, through MoveOn. A protest, with signatures, to be read at the GEn. Assembly, decrying the UN lack of integrity. The UN is obsoleting itself just by being so inactive on Syria. What a shame.

  • This is UN history sadly repeating itself. Daniel Patrick Moynihan predicted it all, when we waged a heroic fight to prevent passage of the UN “Zionism is Racism” Resolution back in 1975. Read the fascinating story in the new book, Moynihan’s Moment: America’s Fight Against Zionism as Racism by Gil Troy, just published by Oxford University Press. http://www.moynihansmoment.com

  • This is unfortunately typical of the UN. What can we all do to let the world know this and believe it? It seems that the world is deaf and dumb when it comes to criticism and presentation of facts EXCEPT for the untrue and exaggerated attacks and criticism of the only Jewish state – Israel.

We need to keep telling the world what is really happening and hope that sometime soon they will open their ears, eyes and hearts to the truth and allow a new order of Peace to really take hold.

  • The Leaque of Nations and England screwed the Jews in 1922, by cutting 75-80% of Palestine and created a new Arab nation with 95% Palestinians, why would the UN be any diverend, they cut that little pc that was left of Palesine in two one part for the Jews and the other part for the Palestinians, so the Palestinians have in fact 87-92% of the original Palestine of before 1922. The Jews accepted but the Palestinians did not and stared an 65 year war, but the UN and blame Israel for everything. Amd America is so stupid to send millions of Dollars to a buch of thieves.

  • Where are the nation’s voices that support Israel? When Israel left Gaza, the only occupiers are Hamas. Imagine if Gaza and Israel were fully at peace, the lives of the Gazans would be so different. The UN is only playing the isolation of Israel card. Yassar Arafat would be so pleased! The US needs to stop fully supporting the UN. Nations need to make a firm statement against its actions.

  • Like the League of Nations was dissolved after WWII, let’s dissolve the UN! Where there’s a will, a way will be found. It’s a USELESS body of corruption. Get rid of it.

  • The United States shuld eliminate it’s funding to the UN. They do not have to fund an organization that is tehe best fsreind tehe US has in tehat part of the world. Teh UN is made uup of countries that little ornothing to promote Liberty and Justice for the people who live under rules by oppression. Enough of using Israel as a scape goat. ow many awards have any of them received in relateion what has beenaccompolished by Israel. Enough is enough

  • Why do you not publish how the USA and the EU countries voted on these resolutions.
We know that the Muslim countries and the African and South American states they buy will vote with them.

  • The U.N. organization is made up of a majority on nations who are anti Israel and their viewpoint is reflected in the UN voting and policies.
Their leadership goes along. They have no moral compass to guide them. They are hypocritical, sending the wrong messages to the nations and people of the World. They have become a proparganda organization for evil.

  • To President Obama

Pls.pls.top the funding of the UN !!!!
    Thank you
    Regards,
    E.Roman

  • In a world thwart by violence and terror, it might seem that the main purpose of the UN is to sponsor the Israel Arab conflict. Why should we justify their actions with this discussion? Just as a ruler is only a ruler if he has subjects, so the UN is only an influential body if we invest it with power. Let us turn our backs and ignore it.

  • As humans we need to learn from history as is being classicly illustrated at the U.N. The league of nations which was borne as a result of WW1 led, I believe, in large part to the start of WW2. The time of the U.N., born as a result of WW2, has come and gone. If we are to prevent the same issues arising again I propose a radical overhaul of the UN or disbandment in line with future demands

  • Too bad the U.N. didn’t ask the Arabs living in the Golan Heights if they’d like to come under Syrian rule tomorrow. I imagine the results would’ve been about 95% “no.” In fact, I bet the majority of Arabs in east Jerusalem would prefer Israeli governance over Fatah. An interesting social experiment would be to place a resolution before the General Assembly, describing and condemning human rights violations being committed by a country other than Israel, only disguising it so it says “Israel.” After it passes by the usual maljority [sic], re-introduce the same resolution, this time correctly identifying the offending country. The second time, it would receive 5% of the same votes.

  • It is useless ‘preaching to the choir'; WE know all of this. The point is to make the rest of the world acknowledge it. SO – with all of the Yiddische kopfs that we have, all of the Nobel Prizes and other awards – why are we so incredibly bad at public relations?
The issue should be how to turn public around in our favor…anyone??

  • The inmates are in charge of the asylum. How is it that these rogue nations are in charge of the u.N. Human Rights? It is so ludicrous to think that the U.S. permits this outrage on our soil and we help pay for it!!! I say uninvite these nations until they can make some serious minded resolutions. Expel them from our country if possible.
The sad part is that they are gaining more and more power all over the world. Let’s pull the rug from under them!!!!

  • The UN is completely corrupt, a total waste of money, and should either be wound up, or relocated out of New York to somewhere like Siberia. Its agenda is controlled by the Islamic bloc, and it has become an expensive joke outfit which specializes in lies.

In any event, the democratic nations should withdraw from this discredited organization, and set up their own union, which would stand for truth and justice.

  • All the resolutions mentioned are fair and warranted – Israel should never have been approved as a nation. That is the real mistake that the UN can be blamed for. But of course the Syrian crisis is of a more acute nature.

  • U.N. = Useless Nations! Why our government is involved with such a bigoted, idiotic bunch of individuals who have to create work to justify their incredibly soft and cushy jobs is beyond me! I don’t know why our presidents haven’t had the … intestinal fortitude to just pull out and leave them all to dither in the tempests they create in thimbles! Viva Israel! Viva por siempre y per omnia saecula saeculorum!! HaShem Bless Israel and strengthen them to kick butt for a LONG, LONG TIME!! Sha’alu shelom Yirushalayyim! From a devoted Roman Catholic Zionist!

  • The Muslim countries and its allies several European countries have togheter almost the absolute majority at the UN,not mention of the abstensionists ,no wonder that any resolution against Israel will be approved .

  • The ongoing condemnations relating to “infringement of human rights”, “occupied territories including east Jerusalem”, “right of return” are a REPETITION of essentially the same subjects and are clearly a device to keep Israel/Palestine in centre stage. And let’s not be mislead in believing that the UN is a democratic body – it is a body of vested interests like any parliament and the dominant element holds sway.
